Gokyo Valley Everest Panorama Trekking begins at Lukla town after taking a short flight from Kathmandu, where walk leads within lovely Sherpa farm villages of Ghat-Phakding and Monjo where Sagarmatha National Park entrance located.
Sagarmatha for Everest in Nepali while native Sherpa calls as Chomolungma in both languages means ‘Great Mother, as walk progresses within beautiful alpine forest to reach at high and large village at Namche Bazaar.
At Namche Bazaar with time to get acclimatized with short scenic walks to its viewpoints facing Everest and majestic peak Amadablam with array of peaks, an interesting place for rest day with excellent facilities of banks, post-office, many shops and stores.
From Namche heading higher towards remote and isolated areas of scenic Khumbu with time at Khunde and Khumjung villages visiting interesting monastery, a place that treasure scalp of a Yeti, and then our route leads higher north with climb on the trail to Gokyo Valley and its serene glacial lakes.
On reaching Gokyo valley within its many lakes where tree lines fades to rocky hills and ridges with fantastic views of mountains that surrounds this beautiful valley, after a marvelous time heading back to Lukla taking an alternative scenic route via Phortse, Pangboche to magnificent Thyangboche.
At Thyangboche visiting its impressive colorful monastery surrounded by array of peaks with close views of Amadablam and Mt. Everest, and then walks leads on the main trail to reach at Lukla where our marvelous adventure Gokyo Valley Everest Panorama comes to an end.
We will welcome you at the international airport and guide you through the initial culture shock of Kathmandu’s narrow, winding streets to get you settled into your hotel.
In the afternoon (depending on your arrival time) we can take you on a bazaar walk exploring the secret alleys and courtyards of old Kathmandu that most visitors don’t get to experience.
We begin by walking into the old city and exploring the small alleyways, myriad of hidden temples belonging to both Hinduism and Buddhism (in some cases, both!) and make our way through local bazaars of fruit, vegetables, spices and stunning wares made of brass, bronze and copper. Not only exotic produce, but a fascinating mix of people are everywhere; along with the brightly clad locals of the Kathmandu Valley, you’re likely to see ‘Gurkhas’, Sherpa women in their striped aprons, traders from India, and sadhus – Hindu holy men – perhaps on pilgrimage to one of the many temples and shrines of the valley. After the breakfast, your guided tour will start where you will be taken to most of the historical and spiritual attractions of Kathmandu. You will visit UNESCO World Heritage sites like Durbar Square, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhunath), the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath’ and Buddhist shrine (Bouddhanath), which is also one of the largest stupas in the world. At noon, there will be a pre-trip discussion where you can ask any questions regarding your upcoming adventure. Overnight in Kathmandu.
All treks to Everest begin from Luka where you will be flying to, early in the morning. The flight will be an interesting one since you will be flying amidst the grand Himalayas. The short trek to Phakding begins immediately after you land at Lukla Airport. You will be at a Cheplung village from where you can have a glimpse of Mt. Khumbila. From Cheplung, you’ll continue descending to Phakding. Overnight in Phakding.
The trek begins on uphill and downhill trails with multiple crossings over Dudh Koshi River and a magnificent view of Mt. Thamserku from the Benkar village. You’ll cross more bridges and reach the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo, where the trekking permits are checked. You’ll have to walk furthermore and pass through Jorsale village before reaching Namche Bazaar. From there, you’ll get beautiful views of the Himalayas including Everest, Lhotse, Tawache and others. This is the first of the three scheduled rest days which will help you acclimatize to the high altitude. You are going to spend the day enjoying small hikes in and around Namche Bazaar. You’ll hike up to Everest View Hotel to enjoy admirable views of the Himalayan peaks. On the way back to Namche you’ll also tour the Khumjung Monastery and Hillary School. After strolling around the Namche area, you have to follow on the gradual trail with few short up and downs overlooking magnificent view of the great giant snow peaks at Shanasa. The trek ascend the left side to Mongla hill and will continue down to Phortse Thanga. Few hours walk of ascending will take you to Dole for overnight. Overnight in Dole.
After having breakfast, you have to climb to the scenic ridge above the Dole and the trail continues to climb along the side of the valley high above the river, crossing sandy spurs to reach Machhermo. Overnight in Machhermo.
Today, you’ll have to climb up to the ridge from where you can see excellent view down the valley to Khangtega and northern part to the Cho-Oyu (8,153m/26,741ft). The route descends to the river bank before climbing up to the terminal moraine of the Ngazumpa glacier. You have to follow the valley past a second lake, known as Longponga (4,690m). You will reache Gokyo village on the edge of third lake after an hour walk. Overnight in Gokyo village.
You will hike to Gokyo Ri, a small peak above Gokyo village, in the morning and savor the fantastic views of the entire Khumbu region. As you ascend, the views become even more fantastic and you can see four of the seven highest peaks of Nepal, Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu. Reaching the fourth lake, Thonak Tsho , you can take pleasure in the lake’s serene beauty after which you’ll have to trek back along the retracing trail to the third lake. You can take an additional hike up to the fifth lake, Ngozumba Tsho if time permits and depending on your physical conditions. Overnight in Gokyo village.
After breakfast you’ll walk back through the same valley down (minimum for 3 and half hours) then cross the river to the right valley up hills to the Phorse village for overnight. Overnight in Phorse Village/ Phorste Thanga.
After breakfast at Phortse, you will mostly hike down hills, following the narrow trail to reach to the river valley, then you will have a gradual/ steep walk up hills through the forested hills of pine and rhododendron reach to Tengboche which is situated at the top of the hill. Overnight in Tengboche.
On the following day, you will pass through the scenic and peaceful valley endowed with rich biodiversity and culture. You’ll come across Sherpa settlements. You’ll see Kongde, Everest, Makalu, Pharchamo, Cho Oyu, Thamserku, Kangtega and Kusum Kang on the way. After arriving Monjo, you’ll have a night stay there. Overnight in Monjo village.
You have to descend steeply to Chauri Kharka. On the way you’ll pass Phakding and Cheplung villages. You’ll have a night stay at Lukla. Overnight in Lukla.
You’ll have a flight to Kathmandu in the morning. After reaching the capital city, you have the rest of the day off. You can take a rest in the hotel room or shop for souvenirs for your loved ones. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Reserve and spare day with optional sightseeing tour
Today is your last day in Kathmandu and is an opportunity to do all the bits and pieces you thought of doing over the past few weeks including any last-minute shopping, returning to places that you enjoyed or didn’t get a chance to visit before your trek. After a great breakfast at your hotel, you are free until it is time for us to transfer you to the airport in time for your flight home. We bid farewell for now and until next time!
