Rara Lake trekking, of moderate and scenic walks with a touch of high altitude crossing the highest ridge and pass of Daphe Lagna at above (3,691m) high facing wonderful scenery of green country landscapes with snow-clad peaks of Dolpo areas includes views of remote Api and Shaipal peaks.
Rara Lake is located around Mugu district within Nepal Far Western Himalaya one of the most isolated countries untouched by the modernization world, where you can walk into its pristine surrounding covered within lovely woodland of firs, pines, spruce, oak tree lines.
Where final journey of this moderate adventure leads you to the heart of Nepal’s largest and deepest Rara Lake within enchanting forested areas facing impressive views that line around this beautiful lake.
Starting our journey to Rara Lake trekking, taking a swift flight to land at Nepal Far South West city at Nepalgunj, and then taking a smaller plane to land at the high mid-hills country of Western Nepal in Jumla, a town and headquarter of Jumla itself where the walk begins heading towards nice and lovely farm areas with impressive villages to reach scenic and magnificent Rara Lake.
On walks of ups and downhill encountering many farm villages with ancient Hindu culture dating back to Malla period, as walk reaches into Rara Lake, where the journey leads back to Jumla taking a high alternative and scenic route for the flight back to Kathmandu with mesmerizing experience on Rara Lake Trekking.

Welcome to the Himalayan country of Nepal. It’s a panoramic thrill flying into Kathmandu on a clear day. The views of snow-capped mountain peaks sprawling down below you are almost ecstatic, beginning a whole chain of memorable experiences that stay with you for a long, long time. And as your plane hits the tarmac, our waiting support team will meet and greet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. Welcome drinks will be served and after time in getting refreshed, that evening you will be invited to a welcome dinner in a typical Nepalese restaurant in the heart of Kathmandu. You will also receive a trip briefing before retiring for the night at the hotel.

Today after breakfast we start a guided tour to several of the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu which are also listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. We visit the historic Durbar Square, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhunath) the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath’ and Buddhist shrine (Bouddhanath), which is also one of the largest stupas in the world. At noon, there will be a pre-trip discussion as well as provides opportunity to ask any questions you may have regarding our upcoming adventure.

On the third day, you will board a spectacular 50 min afternoon to Mahendra Airport in Nepalgunj (150m). The journey over the hills and valley is a splendid experience as you arrive in the largest city in the steamy Terai. Nepalgunj lies in the border region of western Nepal and India. Upon your arrival at the airport, a vehicle will be waiting for you to escort you through old villages and countryside to the Hotel. Since the temperature 28 degrees at night, you will sleep in the comforts of air conditions at your Hotel room.

After early breakfast we leave the Terai plains of Nepalgunj and fly to the hilly landscape of Jumla, one of the least accessible districts in Nepal. Situated in the foothills of the Sisne Himalaya, Jumla is also the gateway for trekkers who want to explore the remote Karnali region of Nepal.

Today is the first day of our trek. We leave Jumla and ascend to Chere Chaur along the Jugad Khola. On the way, we pass Khalanga Bazzar, a small market place for the nearby villages. We also pass a couple of villages and a temple before reaching our destination.

From Chere Chaur we take the western trail and ascend slowly until the Jaljala pass (3,580m). We cross the pass and continue trekking on a relatively straight trail until reaching Jaljala Chaur. From here we ascend on a steep trail and enter the Rara Lake Circuit before reaching Chalachaur.

It is an uphill climb to Sinja Valley. On the way we pass through several villages and walk along the Jaljala Khola (stream). Sinja Valley holds an important place in the history of Nepal. The valley houses the ancient capital city of the Khasa Kingdom that ruled this area from the 12th to the 14th century. Palaces, temples, and the ancient remains of a settlement were uncovered during excavations spearheaded by the Department of Archaeology at Cambridge University.

We leave Sinja on an uphill trail alongside Hima River. From the village we climb on a steep trail for a while followed by a relatively easy trail until Laha Village. From Laha, it is a steep climb up until Ghorosingha alongside Ghatte khola (stream).

We begin our steep ascent after breakfast. Our trail is alongside Chuchhemara Danda from where we get to admire the Himalayan panorama, the vast and tranquil Rara Lake, and the lush vegetation of the Rara National Park. On the way to Rara Lake, we pass through Khatyar Khola Camp and a few villages including Murma. From Murma, the ascent gets a little easier. We continue walking towards Chapri village which houses the Rara National Park Head Quarter.

Rara Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Nepal. After breakfast we investigate the azure waters of the massive lake also referred to as Mahendra Taal (Lake) after late king Mahendra. While boating we get to admire the picturesque setting of the lake and discover quite a few varieties of fish. Chuchemara Peak lies on the southern side of the Rara Lake whereas Ruma Kand and Malika Kand peaks frame its northern area.

From Rara Lake our trail is easy and we walk on a relatively straight path until Gamgadhi which is the headquarters of the remote Mugu District of Nepal. From Gamgadhi, we descend on a steep trail to Pina Village where we spend the night.

From Pina we descend and cross the Ghurchi Lagna pass at (3,480m). We continue our descent and pass through a few villages before reaching Bumra. The Bumra village is also known as Nauri Ghat.

We cross two suspension bridges above Hima River and walk downhill. After walking for a few hours, we get to a hot spring where we can ease our aching body with a dip. Not long after the hot spring, we cross Danphe Lagna pass at (3,691m). After reaching Cherechaur, we follow the same trail we took couple of days back and reach Jumla.

We keep an extra day in case the flight gets canceled due to bad weather condition or delayed due to some reasons.

On this day, early in the morning, you’ll fly back to Nepalgunj from Jumla. After reaching Nepalgunj, you’ll again catch a flight back to Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. Upon your arrival at International Airport, you’ll get transfer to the respective hotel. In the evening, you can stroll around the nearby famous tourist hub, Thamel.

Today is your last day in Kathmandu and is an opportunity to do all the bits and pieces you thought of doing over the past few weeks including any last-minute shopping, returning to places that you enjoyed or didn’t get a chance to visit before your trek.
