My family and I first met Thile in 2006. I was a recently recruited teacher at The British School in Kathmandu and lived in KTM for 3 years with my wife, Helena, and 2 small children, Naomi and Rowan. Thile took us and another family to Langtang and we had the time of our lives – it was truly magical. And Thile really knows how to care for us foreigners – he’s super helpful and supportive… he knows we can be a pain as it takes time to slow down and appreciate Nepal is a poor country so you can’t be too demanding!
Thile gives you space, support and is also great company, a caring guy and practising Buddhist. I know this sounds a bit OTT but it’s all true.
On our last visit (2019) we were suppose to do a round trek via EBC and the Gokyo lakes but as we went during the monsoon the trails were not so great so we cut out the lakes part… so will be back to try again. On this visit Thile gave us Dawa and Pasang as guides, with NIma and Jeku carrying the kit. We were disappointed ar first as we really wanted Thile… but he was right, Dawa and Pasang also turned out to be fantastic.
In short – I cannot recommend this company too much.
Oh – almost forgot. On our last visit Thile also invited us to dinner and provided a car to Tribhuvan!
Thile was our Sherpa guide for me and my husband (Michel) for a 10 days Poon Hill Himalaya Panorama trekking. With Thile, we always felt safe. Thile is very attentive to all the details of our trip. He looks after all our needs. He is always in a good mood and shares the beauties of his country with us. Bravo Thile, you are the best Sherpa!
“In 2018, Thile organized, prepared and successfully taken my girlfriend and I into the regulated valleys of Nar Phu for a 11 day Trekking adventure that changed my life. He made this trip free of any worries related to documentation and logistics which are technical factors that can create a lot of stress when planning such a trip. Thile truly made us feel part of his family while in Nepal by taking us out to dinner, inviting us to his home and even bringing us into Sherpa community events. He helped us be immersed in traditional Nepalese culture and even greatly contributed to a documentary project of ours. His patience and his wisdom are genuine values that he carries in his personal humanitarian projects. It was a pleasure meeting him and I can’t wait to be back. Thanks again.” –
“Nepal is one of those countries that you leave knowing that someday, you’ll have to come back.
It was our first experience in Nepal, and after some research on the Internet, we were left skeptical. What if the trekking we choose is crowded with tourists? One of our friends recommended that we speak with Thile. He answered all our questions and helped us design a personalized route. We visited fantastic places we would have never visited without him. In each village, he took time to walk around with us, act as an interpreter with the locals, answer our million questions about Nepalese culture. We were able to participate in religious ceremonies, have tea with elders, and sleep in a monk’s house. And at the same time, he respected our intimacy as we were walking, meditating each step in this astonishing decor.
If you’d like to wake up each morning with someone asking you kindly which kind of tea you’d like to have, Thile is your man!”
In 2002 and 2010 I went on two incomparably beautiful trekking tours with Sherpa Thile Lama. These led to the Everest region and around Annapurna. The tours were well organized and many extra requests were fulfilled. Thile made it possible for me to get in contact with the population again and again so that I could get to know and experience the culture better. These were visits to monasteries, some with religious ceremonies, insights into family life, such as being present when dinner was prepared or demonstrations, shows, folk festivals, and much more. The price-performance ratio was good. All organizational things, such as domestic flights, permits, accommodation, bus rides, were taken care of for me. I am very grateful to him for his helpful and competent support and I can recommend him.
We hired Thile based on a friends’ recommendation in 2018 for a 3-weeks trip around the Annapurna. During the whole time, Thile went above and beyond our expectations. Thile is a caring, resourceful (which is quite essential when going to remote locations), and truly genuine human. His preparation prior to our arrival was detailed and precise. Our trip was uneventful and went according to plan, aside from a weather storm requiring us to change our route. Fortunately, Thile carefully laid out our options. In hindsight, the choice he recommended was by far the best.
Every place we stayed during our trip, especially in the small villages during the hike, was always the best option available. During the day, Thile offered a good balance between sharing his knowledge about the culture, villages, and people while giving us enough room to experience what Nepal has to offer by ourselves. Thanks to Thile and his ability to connect with locals, we got to live unforgettable moments that we wouldn’t have lived having made the trip by ourselves.
Four years later, Thile still holds a special place in our hearts, and we’ll be forever grateful that he contributed so much to make our trip to Nepal a life-changing one. We would recommend Thile without any hesitations for anyone who would like to discover Nepal.
Cheers,
Thile was my guide for my November 2012 Three Passes Trek in Nepal. This was a custom 19-day trek in the Khumbu region of Nepal. The 3 passes crossed in the trek were Kongma La 18,200 feet, Cho La 17,500 feet, and Renjo La 17,700 feet.
Thile was an excellent guide. Since this was a solo trek, Thile was a great companion and conversationalist. Thile provided interesting information on the villages and areas we trekked and easily adapted to my hiking speed and style. Thile provided very valuable information on foods NOT to eat at the Tea houses. Thile was very caring and concerned about any potential health issues on the trek.
Trekking with Pan Bhadur Pun
In May 2007, the British company GKN, of which I was a director at the time, decided to organise a trek to the Solokhumbu to raise charitable funds for schools in Africa. My son, Anthony, and I joined the group for what became a life changing experience for both of us. Pan Bhadur Pun was asked to look after the two of us as we were staying longer in the Khumbu than the main party, so the three of us walked together for many days. He was very experienced, knowledgeable about all aspects of the Himalaya and above all, excellent company. He also knew how to pace our walking to suit my aging legs (I was in my 60s at the time) and his kindness to us remains a warm memory for me.
As the photograph shows, we had good weather, especially on the descent, with Pan pointing out all the mountains we were seeing and explaining about life in the Khumbu; he also took us past the famous Hilary School. We stayed once more in Namche Bazar, where the three of us enjoyed an excellent meal together and when we returned to Lukla, he organised our flight back to Kathmandu. I can highly recommend him to anyone of any age planning a trek in Nepal.

Hello Thile, thank you so much for the most wonderful, memorable trip to ABC! Phuri was the perfect guide. He shared with me his incredible knowledge of the area along the way. I learned a lot. Also thanks to Phuri and Nima for a pleasant, safe, and happy trekking! I will be back for another trek with your company. And next time maybe Tsum valley or Manaslu and of course I will be asking Phuri or Nima for my Sherpa guide again. I wish you all the best with your agency and for all my friends in Nepal.
“I had the pleasure to go on a custom 10 day trek with Thile to Pikey Hill in April 2018. The entire trip was very well organised, with a good hike but also enough flexibility and time to feel relaxed, allow to explore the local area and take photos. Already while staying in Kathmandu Thile showed me around the city, including some local places, food and drinks, which one might easily miss among the busyness of tourist attractions. Similarly, during our trip I had the chance to see people’s homes, visit and stay in monasteries, providing a rich cultural experience. Thile, being involved in many charitable projects in the area, knows how to communicate with the locals, giving opportunities to engage in conversations and have a glimpse into their lives. Thile also showed great skills in adapting to new circumstances, such as weather, transportation or even personal needs, which can quickly change in the Nepal Himalayas. I’ve been in touch with Thile ever since and can’t wait to go back!”
“Thile has vast knowledge of trekking routes in Nepal. I find him honest, well-informed and eager to help others. I have always enjoyed Thile’s company and great hospitality.”
In May 2013, I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to actually fulfill one of my long-term dreams/goals – to hike to the Everest Base Camp. I had just finished a two-week build project in Pokhara with Habitat for Humanity and that presented a perfect chance for me to spend a few more weeks in Nepal. Thile was my guide for that trek and I could not have asked for a more professional, attentive and knowledgeable person to lead me to the Base Camp. Thile was focused on just two things during our time together – that I had a good experience and that I stayed safe. Along the way, thanks to Thile, I learned more about Nepal – its geography, its culture, its history – than I could have in any course. As a practicing Buddhist, Thile taught me much about his religion and its practices and never hesitated to answer my many questions. One of the highlights of our trek was visiting several Buddhist monasteries along the way, especially the one where his brother, a Buddhist monk, had painted several murals on interior walls.
In summary, I can recommend Thile without reservation to anyone who plans to hike in Nepal. I hike often with my daughter and grandsons in different regions around the world and I know that they would find Thile to be the perfect guide. My 1000+ photos bring back so many great memories of our trek, but none more than the exquisite and beautifully painted mandala made by his brother, which Thile sent to me after I returned to the US. It is hanging in a special place in our home.
“In 2002 I came to Nepal on a trekking/camping trip to Siklis in the foothills of the Annapurna mountains with my friend. We were greatly helped during this trek by Dorje Sherpa (friend of Thile Lama Sherpa) who looked after us very attentively. He was always helpful, friendly and reliable and made sure we had everything we needed. We enjoyed his company and always remember him fondly.”
well deserved advertisement for E.B.C.Treks & Expedition and big thanks to Thile Lama Sherpa ! 🙂
‘It was really pleasure for us to visit Nepal again – from very beginning you and all your team (Furba, Nima, Aite, Somrad & Dawa – I’m sorry if I misspell the names :)) made really great job and made us feel comfortable. You were detailed prepared for every situation and help us with everything we needed. Thanks to you and your team everything went smoothly and well. All guys from your team are super friendly, always smiling and also very good dancers 🙂 Big thanks goes to Doma – for welcome us in your home and prepare awesome dinner for us. Lots of good memories from Nepal 🙂 Please say hello to all from your team.
To discover the cultural aspect of rural Nepal, we appreciated greatly our sherpa, Thile Lama. He was our eye opener while we do hiking in Annapurna Valley. Thile cares very much all along our 10 days trip. Hiking between 1,5K M and 3,3K M on beautiful trails, crossing many hamlets, getting warm welcome from the villagers.
I’ve been in Nepal twice in total and each time it was with Thile. I really appreciate that he always made the treks according to our wishes. The first trek was around Anapurnas and it was the lesser known and less touristy trek, the way we wanted it. Everything went well and it was wonderful. But it wasn’t until the second trek – the Three passes trek- that really showed how great guide Thile is. On the third day, I started to have health problems that eventually caused me to withdraw from the trek and return to Kathmandu, but Thile looked after me throughout all my illness. When I was at my worst Thile even didn’t go to sleep at all and kept watch over me all night. He also made things very easy for me by dealing directly with my insurance company, the hospital and the helicopter company so I had almost nothing to worry about. When I recovered, he immediately devised an alternative trek for me from Birethanti over Poon hill to Dhampus. The trek was quite easy, which was great considering my condition, and completely wonderful. The scenery changed every day and therefore every day was a new experience. Dawa, one of Thile’s guides, who kept me company throughout, was a major contributor to that great experience there. Dawa did everything to make sure I didn’t get bored and was also very entertaining. I learned a lot about Nepal thanks to him and he showed me things I would never have noticed on my own. He knew the trek perfectly and was able to arrange everything without any worries. However, Dawa is mostly a mountain guide, so I’m really looking forward to climbing a mountain with him in the future. Because once you visit Nepal, you want to go back again and again.
‘Thile organised a trek for me of Upper Mustang which was followed straight after by a visit to the Tatopani hot spring. His colleagues that accompanied me on the journey – Pasang and Dawa, were highly skilled and professional while also being greatly friendly and welcoming.
Their incredible knowledge of the land left meant I could enjoy the challenges of trekking without unnecessary risk, as well as being able to some visit some of the more obscure temples that initially seemed (to me) hidden in some sections of the mountains. Their language skills and intimate knowledge of local cultures allowed me to communicate with the many local people we met throughout the journey.
Prior to the Trek Thile met up with me a number of times in Kathmandu to go over details of the trek while also at no cost to myself showed me parts of the city which I would not have been aware of, including some great places to eat which were hidden from the tourist trail (and considerably cheaper). I also felt honoured to be welcomed in to his home to eat with his family.
Thile made sure to ask questions about particular places I wanted to visit in Mustang and planned the trek around these, as well as adapting it furthermore so that the trip to the Tatopani spring near Kodari followed on seamlessly from being in Mustang. Prior to setting off, Thile summarised the trip for me in a detailed yet clear and concise itinerary document me to read before leaving Kathmandu, which left me feeling greatly reassured and able to look forward to the journey. Thile organised all of the transport prior to the trip while Dawa and Pasang organised accommodation and food.
Not least importantly, I really enjoyed spending time with and getting to know Thile, Dawa and Pasang, who while having very different personalities from each other, were all immensely calm, open and approachable.
It’s been a pleasure to remain in contact with Thile since that time, and I’m very much looking forward to returning to Nepal and doing another trek with his organisation. Without hesitation I would highly recommend Thile for anybody thinking of trekking in the region!
E.B.C. Treks & Expedition P. LTD. by Thile Lame Sherpa was a private recommendation of a long known
friend of mine. I trekked the first time in Nepal and had no experience what to expect. I a sixty years old
Austrian and had little time for preparation. The communication before the trek was clear and reliable.
Hinds and packing lists were helpful and complete. The trek itself was well organized and the planning
during the trek was adapted due to our strengths and requirements. In the evenings we daily had a short
briefing about the next day and what to expect. Wheather conditions and the daily situation of the route
were checked by Thile and sufficient replaning and adaptions were done. Also the small things we first
did not take into consideration, like the food in the lodges and what specifically to omit, was managed.
During the whole trip we did not experience a single day with sickness. We met several people with food
poisoning or altitude sickness and saw how they suffered. Sometimes a good knowledge of the situation
and the inherent specific dangers makes the difference what you experience. I personally can highly
recommend this company as a very reliable safety oriented organization which much experience in
trekking and its organization. This may make trekking really enjoyable and gives you a good memory for
the rest of your life.
In 2006 I travelled in Tibet and Nepal, and Thile was part of the Nepali team. He’s a very kind person, experienced and honest, always attentive and reliable and does whatever he can to fulfil your wishes. So if you’re looking for someone to organise an amazing trip for you in Nepal, I highly recommend Thile.
I’ve been in contact with him ever since and we finally met again a few months ago in Kathmandu (he invited me to his home where I was regaled with a delicious Nepali dinner). I look forward to meeting Thile again.
Thile organized a Upper Mustang Trek which was led by the guides Dawa amd Phurba in 2022. The organization of the trek went smoothly with clear communication and him being able to accomodate our wishes. Once in Nepal, I felt well taken care of and everything ran smoothly from my arrival in Kathmandu to the end of the trek. Dawa and Phurba were very knowledgeable of the trail and guesthouses and also shared information regarding the valley nature and culture. Given my experience, I cannot recommend E.B.C Treks & Expedition enough!
Dear Thile, warm greetings to you, Doma and your family from the Czech Republic. We know from Facebook about your activities and treks. You are very active, it is great. We were very pleased to meet you in our country and at least a bit to repay you for a great hospitality we received from you in Nepal. Following I resend you a short article about our treks. Our Nepal treks with the EBC Treks & Expeditions Pvt.Ltd We have done 3 treks in Nepal, all organized and supported by the EBC. Thile, the main guide, always recommended a route suitable to the requirements and possibilities of our group, arranged transport and accommodation in Nepal, porters, permits and everything necessary. Thanks to this, everything went smoothly. What we agreed on was always valid. We greatly appreciate reliability of our Nepali trek guides and porters, their helpfulness, willingness and permanent positive attitude. They are great guys – Nima, Aite, Dandy and others. If there was a need to make a change in the plan (due to bad weather), Thile promptly proposed a solution and we together modified the program. There were never any contradictions to spoil our good mood. Many thanks to the entire team of our Nepali friends for a great experience in the fantastic environment of the Nepali mountains. During the treks, we were often in contact with the inhabitants of the mountain villages and could get to know closely their habits, traditions and positive life philosophy. All this is the reason why we like to return to Nepal. Hynek & Iva Stuchlik, Blansko, Czech Republic We wish you, your family a and your friends nice and happy new year, full of health, fitness and peace. Hynek, Iva, Sarka
