Overview

The Upper Mustang to Nar Phu Valley via Saribung Peak & Pass Trek is a rare and adventurous Himalayan journey that connects two of Nepal’s most remote and culturally rich regions. This long and rewarding trek takes you through ancient Tibetan-style landscapes, sacred valleys, hidden villages, and high Himalayan passes before reaching the peaceful Nar Phu Valley.

Your journey begins with your arrival in Kathmandu, where you are warmly welcomed and given time to rest, prepare, and learn about the adventure ahead. After a scenic flight to Pokhara and then to Jomsom, the trek begins from Kagbeni and slowly takes you deeper into the remote landscapes of Upper Mustang, once known as the ancient Kingdom of Lo.

As you walk through Mustang, you will see wide open landscapes, dramatic cliffs, colorful rock formations, ancient monasteries, long Mani walls, sacred caves, and traditional villages such as Kagbeni, Tsaile, Dhakmar, and the walled town of Lo Manthang. Life here is simple and closely connected to the land, mountains, and local traditions.

In and around Lo Manthang, you have time to explore ancient monasteries, old villages, sacred valleys, and fascinating cave dwellings. The visit to Chhosar and the Luri Cave Monastery gives you a closer look at the deep Buddhist culture and long history of this remote Himalayan region.

The journey then becomes more remote and challenging as you move toward the high mountains of Saribung. Camping begins as the trail climbs higher into quiet and wild mountain country. With proper acclimatization and the support of our experienced climbing team, you prepare for the ascent of Saribung Peak (6,346 m / 20,820 ft).

Reaching the summit is one of the most special moments of the journey. After the climb, the adventure continues toward Saribung Pass (5,600 m / 18,372 ft). Crossing this high mountain pass is a challenging part of the trek and offers a true feeling of being deep in the Himalayas.

After crossing the pass, the landscape slowly changes as you enter the hidden Nar Phu Valley. Here, traditional villages such as Phu Gaon and Meta offer a warm welcome and a chance to experience a simple Himalayan way of life. Stone houses, prayer flags, old monasteries, and quiet mountain paths make this part of the journey very special.

The trail then descends through mountain landscapes, forests, and river valleys toward Koto. From there, a long scenic drive takes you back to Kathmandu. You will have time to rest, enjoy the city, and look back on the many experiences of your journey before your final departure from Nepal.

This trek is ideal for experienced trekkers who want to explore remote Himalayan landscapes, ancient culture, high mountain trails, and peak climbing in one journey. It is a challenging adventure, but it also gives you time to walk quietly, meet local people, enjoy nature, and discover a different side of the Himalayas.

From the ancient Kingdom of Lo to the hidden valleys of Nar Phu, this is a journey of mountains, culture, nature, and unforgettable memories.
