The Langtang Valley, Yala Peak Climbing & Ganja La Pass Trek is a beautiful and adventurous 19-day journey that combines the natural beauty of the Langtang Valley, the excitement of climbing Yala Peak, and the challenging crossing of Ganja La Pass (5,130m / 16,830ft). The journey also takes you through the quieter and more remote mountain trails toward Helambu, offering a wonderful mix of Himalayan landscapes, local villages, forests, and Buddhist culture.
Your journey begins with your arrival in Kathmandu, followed by a day to explore some of the city’s cultural and historical places and prepare for the trek. From Kathmandu, we drive to Syabrubesi, the gateway to the Langtang Valley, and begin trekking through forests, traditional villages, and beautiful mountain landscapes.
As we walk higher through the Langtang Valley, the scenery gradually changes from green forests and villages to open alpine landscapes surrounded by snow-capped Himalayan peaks. We reach Kyanjin Gompa (3,830m / 12,565ft), where we spend time for rest, acclimatization, and preparation for the Yala Peak climb. There is also an opportunity for an optional hike to Kyanjin Ri, Tsergo Ri, or Langshisha Kharka, depending on your fitness, weather, and trail conditions.
The adventure continues with a trek to Yala Peak Base Camp (4,600m / 15,091ft). After proper acclimatization and climbing preparation, we make an early start for the summit of Yala Peak (5,500m / 18,044ft). After reaching the summit, we descend back to Kyanjin Gompa. The climb provides an exciting Himalayan experience with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
From Kyanjin Gompa, the trail takes us into a more remote and rugged part of the region. We trek toward Ngengang and then Keldang, crossing the challenging Ganja La Pass (5,130m / 16,830ft) along the way. This is one of the most demanding sections of the journey, with steep and rocky terrain and possible snow or ice depending on the season and weather conditions. A reserve/contingency day is included in the itinerary to provide flexibility for weather, trail conditions, health, or other unexpected delays.
After the high mountain section, we gradually descend toward Tarkegyang, passing through forests, open hillsides, villages, and beautiful landscapes. From Tarkegyang, we continue to Sermanthang and then trek down to Melamchi Pul. Along the way, the environment becomes greener and warmer as we lose altitude, with opportunities to experience local village life, farmland, and the Buddhist culture of the Helambu region.
From Melamchi Pul, we drive back to Kathmandu. You will then have a leisure day to relax, explore the city, shop for souvenirs, or simply enjoy a peaceful final day in Nepal before your international departure.
This trek is ideal for those who want to combine trekking, Himalayan culture, high mountain landscapes, a non-technical peak climbing experience, and a challenging high-pass crossing in one journey. Depending on the group’s fitness, energy, interests, and weather conditions, we can choose one of several optional day hikes:
Kyanjin Ri (4,400m / 14,435ft): Located just north of Kyanjin Gompa, Kyanjin Ri is a popular viewpoint and a good option for those looking for a shorter but rewarding hike. From the top, we can enjoy panoramic views of the Langtang Valley, surrounding mountains, and Kyanjin Village below.
Tsergo Ri (4,984m / 16,351ft): For those looking for a more challenging adventure, Tsergo Ri offers a longer and steeper hike. The climb requires good fitness and takes us to a high viewpoint with impressive views of Langtang Himal, Langtang Lirung, and the surrounding peaks.
Langshisha Kharka (4,245m / 14,058ft): This beautiful alpine meadow offers a more gradual and peaceful option. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, it is a wonderful place to enjoy nature, take photographs, and experience the quiet beauty of the high Himalaya.
The day will remain flexible, and we will choose the most suitable option based on the group’s condition and the weather. Those who prefer a quieter day can stay around Kyanjin Village, explore the nearby area, or simply rest and enjoy the mountain scenery.

The rest of the day is kept flexible so everyone can relax, stay well hydrated, and prepare mentally and physically for the higher and colder mountain environment. Our climbing team will make the final assessment of the conditions and readiness before we continue towards Yala Peak Base Camp.

As we approach the pass, the surrounding mountain scenery becomes increasingly dramatic, with wide views across the high Himalayan landscape.
After reaching the top of Ganja La Pass, we take some time to enjoy the spectacular surroundings before beginning a steep descent toward Keldang. The descent can be demanding, especially after crossing the pass, so we take our time and walk carefully.

The landscape becomes more open as we walk through wide alpine grasslands and rugged mountain terrain. The quiet surroundings and lack of settlements give us a wonderful sense of being deep in the Himalayan wilderness. Along the trail, we can enjoy views of the surrounding ridges, valleys, and distant mountains.
After approximately 7–8 hours of trekking, we reach Dhukpa, where we set up camp and settle in for the evening. After another full day on the trail, we can relax, enjoy a warm meal prepared by our camp team, and rest in the peaceful surroundings.

Today is kept as a reserve day in case of bad weather, difficult trail conditions, health concerns, or any unexpected delays during the trek. This extra day gives us flexibility and helps us continue the journey safely and comfortably if the schedule needs to change.

The Langtang region is also home to a variety of wildlife, including the elusive red panda, Himalayan langur monkeys, Himalayan black bears, and wild boars. Sightings are uncommon, but if we are lucky, we may catch a glimpse of some of these wonderful animals along the trail.
By afternoon, we reach Ghodatabela, a small and peaceful settlement surrounded by forests and mountain scenery. After checking in, we have time to rest, enjoy the quiet surroundings, and prepare for another beautiful day in the Langtang Valley.

Today, we continue deeper into the Langtang Valley as we trek toward Kyanjin Gompa, one of the most beautiful and culturally important places on our journey. Surrounded by towering snow-capped mountains, this peaceful mountain settlement is the last major inhabited area in the valley.
At an altitude of 3,830m / 12,565ft, Kyanjin Gompa offers a wonderful setting with wide mountain views, fresh Himalayan air, and a peaceful atmosphere. The journey takes around 5 hours along a gentle and well-marked trail, making today’s walk enjoyable as we gradually gain altitude.
Along the way, we pass through picturesque settlements, including Langtang Village, and walk across open valleys and meadows where yaks, horses, and cows can often be seen grazing. The magnificent Langtang Lirung remains a constant presence, rising high above the valley and adding to the beauty of the landscape.
As we approach Kyanjin Gompa, the scenery becomes increasingly impressive, with broad mountain views in every direction. After reaching the village, we settle into our teahouse and have time to rest, explore the peaceful surroundings, and enjoy the wonderful Himalayan atmosphere.
This is also a special opportunity to experience the local Tibetan-influenced culture and traditions of the Langtang people while enjoying one of the most memorable settings of the trek.

Today is a rest and acclimatization day at Kyanjin Gompa. It gives us time to adjust to the higher altitude, enjoy the beautiful surroundings, and prepare for the next stage of our journey. After breakfast, you can relax around the village or take a short walk nearby at a comfortable pace.
For those who would like to explore more, we can visit the historic Kyanjin Gompa and the local cheese factory. We can also take a gentle walk toward the surrounding moraines and enjoy impressive views of the glaciers and ice faces of Langtang Lirung.
After the day’s exploration, we return to our teahouse and enjoy a relaxing evening in Kyanjin Village.

Today is a rest and preparation day at Kyanjin Gompa before we begin our Yala Peak climbing adventure. After breakfast, we can take the morning slowly, rest, and enjoy the beautiful mountain surroundings. This extra rest will help us recover from the previous days of trekking and prepare for the climb ahead.
During the day, our climbing guide and team will check the necessary climbing equipment and make sure everything is ready for the journey. We will also have a climbing briefing covering the route, weather conditions, safety, basic climbing techniques, and the plan for the summit day.
There will also be time to check personal clothing and equipment, repack our bags, and make sure we carry only the necessary items for the climb. If weather and group conditions are suitable, we may take a short and easy walk around Kyanjin Gompa for gentle activity and further acclimatization.
The rest of the day is kept flexible so everyone can relax, stay well hydrated, and prepare mentally and physically for the higher and colder mountain environment. Our climbing team will make the final assessment of the conditions and readiness before we continue towards Yala Peak Base Camp.
After the preparation and briefing, we enjoy a relaxed evening at Kyanjin Gompa and get a good night’s rest before the next stage of our adventure.

Today, we leave Kyanjin Gompa and trek toward Yala Peak Base Camp. The trail takes us through rugged and rocky mountain terrain, gradually leaving the green valley behind as we enter the higher alpine landscape.
As we walk higher, we are rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, including Ganchenpo, Naya Kang, Tsergo Ri, Yala Peak, and other impressive Himalayan peaks. The changing landscape and wide mountain views make this a memorable part of the journey.
After approximately six hours of steady walking, we reach Yala Peak Base Camp. There are no permanent settlements here, so we spend the night in a fully supported tented camp. Our professional camp cook will prepare our meals, and the evening is set aside for proper rest and preparation for the days ahead.

Today is the main adventure day of our Yala Peak journey. We make an early morning start after breakfast and begin our climb toward the summit. The exact timing and route may depend on weather conditions and the advice of our climbing team.

From the summit of Yala Peak, we can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Langtang Lirung, Langtang II, Dorje Lakpa, Ganchenpo, Naya Kang, Tsergo Ri, and other magnificent peaks, including mountains across the Tibetan side of the Himalaya.
After spending some time at the summit and taking photographs, we carefully begin our descent. We return to Yala Peak Base Camp and continue down toward Kyanjin Gompa. The descent can be tiring after a long summit day, so we take our time and walk carefully.
By late afternoon or evening, we arrive back at Kyanjin Gompa, where we check into our local lodge and enjoy a well-earned rest after this memorable Himalayan adventure.

We cross a suspension bridge over the Langtang Khola and continue along the rugged mountain trail toward Chhana Lake. The surrounding landscape becomes more open and dramatic, with rocky slopes, high mountain ridges, and beautiful views of the Himalayan wilderness.
From Chhana Lake, we continue toward Ngengang, taking our time as we walk through the high-altitude terrain. After approximately 5–6 hours, we reach our campsite at Ngengang, where our camp team will prepare our evening meal and we can rest and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

By late afternoon, we reach Keldang, where our camp team will have the tents ready for the night. After a long and challenging day, we enjoy a warm meal and a well-earned rest in the peaceful mountain surroundings.

After approximately 6–7 hours of walking, we reach Tarkegyang, one of the largest and most traditional Sherpa villages in the Helambu region. The village is known for its stone houses, Buddhist culture, and beautiful mountain surroundings.
After checking into our local teahouse, we have time to relax and explore the village. In the evening, those who wish can visit the historic Gekye Gompa and experience the peaceful atmosphere of this traditional Buddhist community.

Today is kept as a reserve day in case of bad weather, difficult trail conditions, health concerns, or any unexpected delays during the trek. This extra day gives us flexibility and helps us continue the journey safely and comfortably if the schedule needs to change.
If everything goes according to plan and the reserve day is not needed, you can enjoy a free day in Kathmandu to relax, explore the city, do some shopping, or simply enjoy some quiet time after the long mountain adventure.

As we continue toward Sermanthang, the trail gradually takes us through a more settled part of the region. The surrounding hills, traditional villages, and green landscapes provide a pleasant change after the higher and more rugged sections of our trek.
After approximately 5–6 hours of walking, we arrive at Sermanthang, a peaceful village known for its Sherpa culture, Buddhist traditions, and beautiful natural surroundings. After checking into our local teahouse, we have time to relax and enjoy the village.
In the evening, we can take a leisurely walk around Sermanthang, meet local people, and experience the quiet rhythm of village life.

Reaching the summit or crossing the pass depends on weather, snow and ice conditions, trail conditions, your health and fitness, acclimatization, and the professional assessment of our climbing team. Safety always comes first.
Be ready for early starts: Some trekking days, especially the Ganja La Pass crossing and Yala Peak summit day, may require an early morning or pre-dawn start. Please be prepared to wake up early, have breakfast, pack your day bag, and begin walking as scheduled.
Pack for both trekking and climbing: You will experience different environments, from the beautiful lower Langtang Valley to cold, high-altitude mountain terrain around Yala Peak and Ganja La Pass. Pack carefully with suitable clothing and equipment for both trekking and climbing, and avoid unnecessary items.
If, in case, the Yala Peak summit and Ganja La Pass crossing are not possible due to weather, snow, trail conditions, or other circumstances, there is an alternative option. We can trek down to Lama Hotel and then continue towards Gosainkunda Lake and cross Lauribina La Pass before continuing to Kutumsang. From Kutumsang, we will drive back to Kathmandu. Weather, trail and mountain conditions, local circumstances, and the health or pace of group members may sometimes require changes to the itinerary. Our team will always do its best to operate the trip safely and smoothly, but a flexible and easy-going attitude is an important part of the adventure.
