Overview

The Rolwaling Valley, Tashi Lapcha Pass Trek & Parchamo Peak Climbing is a special Himalayan adventure for those who want to explore a quiet and less-traveled part of Nepal while enjoying the challenge of a high mountain pass and peak climb. The journey takes you from Kathmandu into the remote Rolwaling Valley, across Tashi Lapcha Pass (5,755 m), and to the summit of Parchamo Peak (6,273 m / 20,581 ft) before continuing into the famous Khumbu region.

Your adventure begins with a warm welcome in Kathmandu, where you have time to rest, visit some of the city’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and complete your final preparations. From Kathmandu, a scenic drive takes you toward Gonggar Khola, the starting point of the trek and the gateway to the peaceful Rolwaling Valley.

The trek gradually takes you deeper into the mountains, passing through beautiful forests, rivers, waterfalls, and traditional villages. You will visit Simigaon, Dongang, Beding, and Na, where you can experience the simple lifestyle and warm hospitality of the local Sherpa communities. As you gain altitude, the green landscapes slowly change into wide mountain valleys, rocky trails, glaciers, and impressive Himalayan scenery.

An important acclimatization day at Na gives your body time to adjust before continuing higher. From there, the trail leads to Tsho Rolpa, a beautiful glacial lake surrounded by high mountains. The route then becomes more remote and adventurous as you cross rocky moraines and glacier terrain toward Drolumbau Glacier and Tashi Lapcha Phedi.

The crossing of Tashi Lapcha Pass (5,755 m) is one of the most exciting parts of the journey. An early start takes you through challenging high-altitude terrain toward the pass, where prayer flags, glaciers, and magnificent mountain views create a truly unforgettable Himalayan experience. After carefully descending from the pass, you reach Tashi Cape, where you have time to rest and prepare for the Parchamo Peak climb.

The next major highlight is the climb of Parchamo Peak (6,273 m / 20,581 ft). Starting early with your experienced climbing team, you make your way toward the summit through high mountain terrain. From the top, you can enjoy impressive views of Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and many other Himalayan peaks before descending toward Ngole.

After the peak climb, the landscape and atmosphere gradually change as you continue toward Thame, a beautiful traditional Sherpa village with a historic monastery and strong connection to the old Himalayan trade route. From Thame, the trail continues to Namche Bazaar, the lively heart of the Khumbu region, where you can enjoy the mountain views, local culture, shops, cafés, and the welcoming atmosphere of the Sherpa people.

The final part of the journey takes you down to Lukla, followed by a scenic flight back to Kathmandu. A reserve day provides extra flexibility in case of weather or travel delays, while your free time in Kathmandu gives you an opportunity to relax, shop, explore, and enjoy the city before your final departure from Nepal.

This adventure is carefully planned with gradual acclimatization, rest days, experienced mountain staff, and safety in mind. It is ideal for experienced trekkers and climbers who are looking for a challenging but deeply rewarding journey through one of Nepal’s most beautiful and less-visited Himalayan regions.

After reaching the valley floor, cross a small wooden bridge and continue to Dovan, a peaceful clearing surrounded by dense forest. From here, continue toward Dongang / Riverside, where you will spend the night.

The village lies in a narrow mountain gorge and is home to around sixty traditional houses, a beautiful Gompa, and the Hillary School.

After arriving in Beding, take some time to explore the village, meet local people, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this remote Himalayan community.

As you approach the lake, the scenery becomes more dramatic, with rugged mountains, glaciers, and the wide glacial valley surrounding you. This remote landscape gives you a wonderful feeling of being deep in the high Himalayas.

Higher up, the trail reaches the glacier. You will walk carefully across the glacier toward our campsite below the Drolumbau Icefall. Some sections may be loose or unstable, so careful walking and following the guidance of your trekking team are important, especially where there may be a risk of falling rocks.

After reaching the flatter part of the glacier, we set up camp in this remote and beautiful mountain environment. Surrounded by glaciers, ice-covered peaks, and the quiet wilderness of the Rolwaling Himalayas, this is a truly special place to spend the night.

FAQ

1. How difficult is the Rolwaling, Tashi Lapcha Pass Trek & Parchamo Peak Climbing?

This is a challenging high-altitude adventure combining trekking, a high mountain pass, glaciers, and peak climbing. Some days are long and physically demanding, with steep climbs, rocky trails, snow, and changing mountain conditions. Good fitness, strong walking ability, and previous high-altitude trekking experience are highly recommended.

2. What is the highest point of the journey?

The highest point is Parchamo Peak at 6,273 m / 20,581 ft. You will also cross Tashi Lapcha Pass at 5,755 m / 18,881 ft. These high elevations make proper acclimatization, slow walking, enough rest, and good hydration very important.

3. Do I need previous peak-climbing experience for Parchamo Peak?

Previous high-altitude trekking or climbing experience is strongly recommended. You should be comfortable walking on steep and uneven ground and be prepared for snow and icy sections. Our experienced high-altitude climbing Sherpa will provide guidance and support during the climbing section.

4. How physically fit should I be for this trek?

You should have a good level of fitness and endurance. Regular hiking, long walks, stair climbing, and cardio exercise before the trip will help you prepare. It is also important to be mentally ready for several days in a remote and high-altitude environment.

5. What is the best season for this trek and Parchamo Peak climbing?

The best seasons are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November). These months generally offer better weather, clearer mountain views, and more suitable conditions for crossing Tashi Lapcha Pass and climbing Parchamo Peak. The monsoon period from June to August is not recommended.

6. Is acclimatization included in the itinerary?

Yes. The itinerary includes important acclimatization time at Na and Tashi Cape. These rest days allow your body to adjust to the increasing altitude and give you time to prepare for the high pass and peak climb. Your guide and climbing Sherpa will also monitor your condition throughout the journey.

7. How challenging is Tashi Lapcha Pass?

Tashi Lapcha Pass is one of the most demanding parts of the trek. At 5,755 m, the route can involve snow, ice, glaciers, steep slopes, and difficult mountain terrain. Weather conditions can also change quickly. The crossing is made with an experienced climbing team and appropriate safety equipment.

8. What climbing equipment do I need for Parchamo Peak?

You will need suitable personal trekking and climbing equipment such as mountaineering boots, warm clothing, harness, helmet, crampons, ice axe, gloves, sunglasses, and other essential items. Some group climbing and safety equipment is provided by E.B.C. Treks & Expedition. A detailed packing list will be provided before your trip.

9. Where will we stay during the trek?

You will stay at Local Teahouse/Lodge during the lower and village sections of the route. In the remote high-altitude areas, including the climbing section, accommodation will be in tented camps. Camping arrangements include sleeping, dining, kitchen, toilet, and other necessary facilities.

10. What kind of food is available during the trek?

During the Local Teahouse/Lodge sections, Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner are provided. During the camping and climbing sections, our experienced Sherpa cook prepares full-board meals. Food is simple, fresh, nutritious, and suitable for long days of trekking and climbing.

11. Will drinking water be available throughout the trek?

Yes. During the Local Teahouse/Lodge sections, drinking water can be purchased or arranged locally. During camping sections, boiled drinking water is provided. We recommend carrying a reusable water bottle or hydration system and drinking regularly throughout the day.

12. Is the Rolwaling Valley very remote?

Yes. Rolwaling is one of the remote and less-visited Himalayan regions of Nepal. Facilities become very basic as you move higher, and there are fewer settlements and services compared with popular trekking routes such as Everest Base Camp. This remoteness makes the journey special but also requires good preparation.

13. What permits are required for this trek?

The required trekking, conservation, climbing, and government permits will be arranged according to the itinerary and current Nepal government regulations. Any applicable official fees and charges included in the package will be handled by E.B.C. Treks & Expedition.

14. Is the Parchamo Peak climbing permit included in the package?

Yes. The required Parchamo Peak climbing permit and applicable official climbing fees are included according to the current regulations. Our team will take care of the necessary permit arrangements before and during the trip.

15. What happens if the weather is bad during the trek?

Mountain weather can change quickly, especially at higher elevations. The itinerary includes a reserve/contingency day to help manage unexpected situations such as bad weather, difficult trail conditions, health concerns, or travel delays. Safety always comes first, and the final decision will be made by the experienced trekking and climbing team.

16. What happens if my Lukla flight is cancelled?

Lukla flights are highly dependent on weather and operating conditions. If a flight is delayed or cancelled, the reserve day can help manage the situation. Your guide and E.B.C. team will assist with the necessary arrangements and keep you informed about the next available travel option.

17. Can a solo traveler join this trek?

Yes. Solo travelers and groups of any size can take this program as a private journey. However, because of the remote terrain, high altitude, Tashi Lapcha Pass, and Parchamo Peak climbing, we strongly recommend traveling with an experienced guide and climbing Sherpa.

18. Can I charge my phone and camera during the trek?

Charging may be available at some Local Teahouse/Lodges, but facilities become limited in the higher and camping sections. We recommend bringing power banks or other reliable charging options. Keep batteries and electronic equipment protected from cold temperatures.

19. What should I pack for the Rolwaling and Parchamo Peak adventure?

You should pack according to both trekking and mountaineering conditions. Warm layers, waterproof clothing, good trekking and climbing boots, sleeping bag, gloves, hat, sunglasses, headlamp, trekking poles, personal medicines, water bottles, and essential climbing equipment are important. E.B.C. Treks & Expedition will provide a complete packing list before departure.

20. What if I develop altitude sickness or cannot continue?

Your health and safety are our first priority. If you develop symptoms of altitude sickness, your guide and climbing Sherpa will assess your condition and decide the safest action. Depending on the situation, this may include rest, descending to a lower altitude, medical assistance, or emergency evacuation when necessary.

21. What makes this journey special compared with other Himalayan treks?

This journey brings together several different Himalayan experiences in one adventure. You begin with the peaceful and remote Rolwaling Valley, pass through traditional Sherpa settlements, reach the beautiful Tsho Rolpa, cross the dramatic Tashi Lapcha Pass, and climb Parchamo Peak before entering the famous Khumbu region. It is a journey for travelers who want more than a regular trek—a combination of remote valleys, high mountain passes, Sherpa culture, glaciers, and a Himalayan summit experience.
