Mr. Jiku Lama is an Assistant Guide at E.B.C. Treks & Expedition Pvt. Ltd. He is originally from a remote mountain village in Solu-Khumbu District in the Everest region of Nepal and is the proud father of one daughter.
Since childhood, Jiku has lived with a physical disability because he was unable to receive proper medical treatment while growing up in a remote mountain village. Although one of his legs is affected, he has never allowed this to stop him from working hard and supporting his family, especially his daughter’s education.
Because of his physical condition and limited educational opportunities, he found it difficult to get employment. However, we recognized his determination, honesty, and strong spirit and gave him the opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Guide. Since then, he has successfully completed many high-altitude treks in the Nepal Himalayas. To be honest, Jiku cannot speak or understand English, but he is cheerful, enjoys singing and dancing to make our guests happy, and is always willing to help others.
We are also happy to share that our Founder and Managing Director, Thile Lama Sherpa, helped find a sponsor to support Jiku’s daughter’s education. With this support, she was able to stay in a hostel while completing her SEE (Grade 10) education. After completing Grade 10, she stayed with her relatives in Kathmandu, and we continued to support her higher education through Sathi (Sherpa Aid Throughout Himalayas) https://sathi-project.com/ in partnership with E.B.C. Treks & Expedition Pvt. Ltd. by providing an annual scholarship to help her complete her +2 education. Today, she has gone abroad for higher education and is now studying and working independently without any financial support from her father or our organization. Instead, she is now able to support her father from time to time.
We are proud that we were able to support Jiku and his daughter in this way, and we are equally proud to have him as a valued member of the E.B.C. Treks & Expedition Pvt. Ltd. family.
