After an early breakfast at your hotel, we leave Kathmandu and begin our scenic overland journey to the Annapurna region. Traveling by comfortable tourist-standard private vehicle, we follow the beautiful Prithvi Highway, one of Nepal’s most scenic roads, passing through picturesque countryside, terraced hillsides, traditional villages, lively market towns, and fertile river valleys.

Our journey follows the Trishuli River before reaching Mugling, where we turn north and continue alongside the beautiful Marsyangdi River. As we gradually gain altitude, the scenery transforms from subtropical landscapes to lush forests, cascading waterfalls, steep river gorges, and towering Himalayan foothills. We make several comfortable stops during the journey to stretch our legs, enjoy tea or coffee, and take photographs. Lunch is served at a clean local restaurant before continuing our drive through Besisahar, the traditional gateway to the Annapurna Circuit, and onward to Dharapani.

Arriving in Dharapani by late afternoon or early evening, check into your comfortable local teahouse and take some time to relax while enjoying the peaceful mountain surroundings. Situated at the junction of the famous Annapurna Circuit and Manaslu Circuit trekking routes, Dharapani is a charming Himalayan village surrounded by pine forests, waterfalls, and beautiful mountain scenery—the perfect place to begin your trekking adventure.

Along the way, you will pass the small settlements of Bhratang and Dhukur Pokhari, where apple orchards, traditional stone houses, and colorful prayer flags add to the charm of the journey.

One of today’s highlights is crossing a long suspension bridge before reaching the spectacular Pisang Valley, where the impressive north face of Pisang Peak (6,091 m / 19,984 ft) rises dramatically above the village. Today is the most challenging and rewarding day of your Annapurna Circuit adventure. We begin before sunrise, setting out with headlamps for the gradual ascent to the legendary Thorong La Pass (5,416 m / 17,769 ft), one of the highest and most iconic trekking passes in the world.

Walking at a slow and steady pace, we follow the well-marked trail through the peaceful high-altitude landscape. As the sun rises, the surrounding snow-covered peaks glow with the beautiful morning light, creating an unforgettable Himalayan experience.

Upon reaching the summit of Thorong La Pass, take time to celebrate this remarkable achievement. Colorful prayer flags flutter in the mountain breeze while breathtaking panoramic views stretch across the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. Enjoy time for photographs, a short rest, and the satisfaction of standing on one of Nepal’s greatest trekking achievements.

After spending time at the pass, we begin the long descent toward Muktinath, following rugged mountain trails through ever-changing scenery. As we lose altitude, the landscape gradually transforms into the unique, arid terrain of the Mustang Region, offering a striking contrast to the lush valleys on the eastern side of the pass.

Upon arrival in Muktinath, check into your teahouse and, if time permits, visit the famous Muktinath Temple, one of Nepal’s most sacred pilgrimage sites for both Hindus and Buddhists. Rather than following the main trekking route via Kagbeni, we take the quieter and more scenic trail to the traditional village of Lupra, one of the hidden cultural treasures of the Mustang Region. Trip Notes

The Jomsom–Pokhara flight is weather dependent and usually operates early in the morning when flying conditions are most favorable. Occasionally, strong winds, poor visibility, or other adverse weather conditions may cause flight delays or cancellations. In such situations, E.B.C. Treks & Expedition Pvt. Ltd. will make every effort to arrange the best available alternative transportation to help keep your journey running as smoothly as possible.

If flights are cancelled and are not expected to operate within a reasonable time, we may arrange an overland drive from Jomsom to Pokhara as an alternative. This scenic mountain journey normally takes 8–10 hours, depending on road, traffic, and weather conditions. Although the drive is longer than the flight, it is a safe and reliable option that allows your journey to continue.

For travelers with additional time, this trek can easily be extended into an even more rewarding Himalayan adventure. Instead of traveling directly to Pokhara, you may choose to continue trekking from Jomsom to Tatopani, where you can relax overnight and enjoy the famous natural hot springs before continuing your journey.

From Tatopani, you have several excellent trekking options. Continue to the beautiful Ghorepani–Poon Hill Trek, famous for its spectacular sunrise views, follow the peaceful Khopra Danda & Khayer Lake Trek for a quieter off-the-beaten-path experience, or extend your adventure to the spectacular Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) for an even more unforgettable Himalayan experience.

If you would like to extend or customize your adventure, E.B.C. Treks & Expedition Pvt.
